Updating a Well-Loved Family Home

A Falmouth resident approached us to help her update the home she grew up in and has since owned for 30+ years.

Over time, she always addressed what “needed” to be done–like replacing the heating system, septic, and roof. But, she only did minor projects to update the style, and the home was certainly showing its age.

Upon retiring, she decided it was finally time to update the home with her wish list items.

Around that same time, her sister had hired Barnes Custom Builders for a renovation project. Our client said the results of that project were impressive, and her sister highly recommended working with us. So, she picked up the phone and gave us a call.

I called and met with Charlie Barnes. The rest is history! I couldn’t be happier with the results and I know that the updates have increased the value of my house. A win-win for sure!

Project Scope of Work

Kitchen Remodel

The main part of the project was a kitchen remodel. This included new kitchen cabinets, hardware, an upgraded tile backsplash, countertops & appliances. We also installed replacement windows and a slider door which are energy-efficient and easier for our client to open and close.

Interior Updates

New carpet and fresh paint brightened the home’s master bedroom. New flooring rounded out the interior home improvements.

Exterior Home Improvements

On the home’s exterior, the basement bulkhead needed to be replaced as well as some surrounding masonry repairs. We also completed rot repair, reshingled, and exterior painting.

What Our Client Had To Say

“It was very important to me that we updated the house without sacrificing or compromising the charm of an older home–and Barnes Custom Builders did exactly that! If I had any questions or concerns, they were addressed in a timely manner. I just love my new kitchen!”

To me, the best part of Barnes Custom Builders is not just the quality of the work, but their commitment and response time.

“I loved working with the Project Manager. He would point out things that I did not think of and made smart recommendations. For example, the porch door opened outward, and you would have to step down to open the door. He suggested changing the way the door opened. There was an exposed pipe in the living room that he offered to ‘box in.’ He also recommended removing a small snack shelf that from one side of the kitchen island, which enlarged the counter space so we could add bar stools. He was always in constant communication with me.”
